Establish since 1974, Original Kayu Nasi Kandar had grew into famous mamak restaurant that offer delicious nasi kandar. Synonym with famous mamak in SS2 PJ, Original Kayu Nasi Kandar was our selection for lunch today.
Original Kayu Nasi Kandar had taken mamak stall to new definition! Why? Just read this entry till the end. First the restaurant divided into two section which is aircond and open air. We went to see the food choices offer. Food can be chose from two section. One should be the normal food station and the other hot station that food will be deep fried on your order and serve right away. But this will cost extra.
After a wander around to see the food choices, we sat and order our food to be serve at the table. We order white rice for two person, hot deep fried calamari, hot fried chicken, honey chicken, mixed vegetable, salted egg and mixed curry gravvy. Usually the nasi kandar served with papadum, mixed curry gravvy and mixed vegetable. Ice tea and ice lemon tea for drink. Both fried chicken and fried calamari taste very good and fresh. For honey chicken, it a bit too sweet for me as obvious sweetness of sugar instead of honey. Chicken a bit dark in the meat. Believe must be leftover chicken from the day earlier. So BIG NO for HONEY CHICKEN NEXT TIME! Interesting fact is, we were served with this "one thing" that we dont recognize. Its could be either fried cumin or deep fried crisp from other deep fry. Do tell me if you know.
Enough about the food, lets talk about the restaurant. We found the restaurant cleanliness much better that other mamak restaurant. But the numbers of flies really annoyed us. Original Nasi Kandar should looks the matter more closely. White plates served to us were sparkling clean and warm. Food served in proper way and clean too. Wet towel / tissue after dining was a soft touch that take this mamak restaurant to the new level! Bill will be bring to you and pay at the table. Visa or Mastercard also acceptable! So did not Original Nasi Kandar takes mamak restaurant into new level?
